A lot of people enjoy working out at the gym. I do too! However, I'm on a tight budget, and I can't afford a gym membership. So, I make due with what I have at home. Home workouts work more than you think they can! I can get a really good workout in the comfort of my own bedroom, basement, spare bedroom, and even living room. I even incorporate the staircases.
Not too long ago, I faced the fact that I have social anxiety, among other anxieties. If you have any kind of anxiety, you know why I'd rather stay home to get my gym bod. As I said in the beginning, I like going to the gym. I like being able to go to an environment where the purpose is to be healthier. My biggest problem, aside from not being able to afford a membership, is working out in front of people. I know, most people could care less what others are working on at the gym, but for me, it lowers my performance. I worry too much about my development and what other gym-rats think.
By now, (especially if you are a gym-goer) you want to slap me on the forehead and tell me there's nothing to be afraid of, but it's just me being me. Anxiety stops you from doing a lot of things. As much as I tell myself "don't let it control you," that's what anxiety does, it controls you. If you were able to control anxiety, it wouldn't exist. Working out while extremely tense can't be healthy for you either.
That being said, I'm very comfortable with my routine at home. I have plenty of space in my house to really get moving. I do something different every day to keep my workout agenda interesting, and to keep myself on my toes (sometimes literally "on my toes"). Now, if you want to gain hefty muscle or be a body builder, I would say a gym is the best way to go. Either that, or create a fully equipped gym in your house. But, for me, I workout to keep my body in good shape, and to help me lead a healthy lifestyle. I can do all of this right here at my humble abode. I also don't have to travel far to get my physical activity in for the day.
For all of you wondering if you can get a healthy body at home, you SO can. Eat healthy before and after workouts and drink lots of water. As a treat for myself, I like to grad a bottle of Alo water. They have so many different sweet flavors and I love them all! My favorite part is the chunks of real aloe. Their drinks slightly suppress my appetite so that I don't over-eat. I prefer this drink over any sports drink because it makes me feel spectacularly healthy.
Remember to always try and set aside time from your day to really sweat. It's important to everyone of all shapes and sizes. Besides, who doesn't want to feel better about themselves internally AND externally??
